"John's art is a personal, straight from the spigot storytelling that reflects an intense looking inward, both within himself as a human and into the souls of those he observes. His style leapfrogs from retro-modernism to post-cartoon lowbrow goodness, capturing both the joke and the truth of human existence with casual grace."
Marshall Astor.

"When was the last time you painted on your mom’s family heirloom? John Michael Gill may not exactly be painting on an heirloom, but he sure is rocking layers of paint on an unassuming surface: vases. And that’s really just scratching the surface. Gill creates unique ceramic work, adorned with some truly sick imagery, as well as stickers and paintings, to name a few."

"Gill’s work is a refreshing step back from all the incessant egocentricity that many artists seem to ride on nowadays."

OUT WITH THE OLD

It is time to focus my attention on making the "Art" section of this site up to date. I was going through the site and was not happy with it. I am pushing myself harder than ever to create art that I like. I did like some of the older stuff but did not love it, so the art section will be down for awhile until I get enough new work to start it up again. I am active on the site however so please keep checking back. In fact, I just got a series of 10 new prints that I am going to embellish by hand so each is a one of a kind within a series of 10.

Once again, I cannot thank you all enough for the support you have given my work and me. It is very inspiring to meet the people I do and receive the feedback I get so THANK YOU.

STAY TUNED.......

JOURNAL 6 STARTED

Started Journal 6 in the Journal Pages Section. On a side note, I am feeling motivated and rejuvenated. I am working on a few collaborations and commissions that I will be posting when finished. Here is another chance for me to thank those who support my art. Besides my family, it's all I have. I truly believe I am close to being able to do my art full time. It's all about perfecting my craft and raising money to make money via merchandise and bigger and better projects. Thank you all and if you would like commission work please contact me at johnmichaelgill@aol.com.

I also started a Facebook Artist page. Please visit and hit that fancy "Like" button, or hate it. Its up to you. JOHN MICHAEL GILL FACEBOOK ARTIST PAGE

Censoring The Internet

Image: John Michael Gill

I now firmly believe that all evils in the world that effect Americans are caused by The "G". The government wants to censor the internet now? What are you afraid of? I know that there are conspiracy theories that are simply paranoia however, why is the "G" starting to become paranoid themselves? We are talking about organizations that keep files on radical thinkers. Not just people who do radical things but people with just ideas. One of my heroes, John Lennon was almost deported for his stance on the war. I am surprised that the "G" hasn't "misplaced" the constitution.

I am not really into politics. I feel that the public will never know what's really going on. Just a belief, not a fact. I have little to no faith in our politicians. I only vote out of some weird desperation that it matters. The idea of voting for the wrong guy is a horrible thought. I too am a brainwashed humanimal that follows the heard at times and it makes me sick.

My spiritual beliefs are semi Catholic, Christian, and science. A belief in energy and fate. I, like most Americans have crafted a religion that is my own. I believe in something bigger but do not believe humans are of much importance in the grand plan. One of the greatest minds in our generation is Stephen Hawking. His beliefs are not what religious people want to hear. Right or wrong, that's life.

The Government has embraced religion as a platform. This has nothing to do with running a business other then the money it gives these wolves in sheeps clothing. Remember, those who rail the hardest on any issue are most likely guilty of it.

Do not buy into the idea of censorship as a good thing. It is only for parents to decide and teach our babies to be good people whatever their beliefs. I don't want anyone telling me what freedoms I do and don't have. Leave it up to me to deal with cause and effect.

One last thing. Be careful who you make into a deity because they belong to your political party. I see constantly people on the internet preaching who is good and bad. Remember, YOU DONT KNOW SHIT when the curtain closes. Focus your hatred towards positive change. I know I have been hypocritical at times in this rant, but I am tired of people whining and complaining about issues they have no answers for. Even my own blood does this.

This confirms that the only possible utopian society we might even have a chance at is within our own immediate family. Even that is a mission.

Sorry for doing this but before we all loose our internet rights, FUCK YOU YOU MOTHRFUCKIN COCKSUCKERS. You ARROGANT SONS OF BITCHES. SHUT YOUR FUCKFACE ASSHOLE SELF DESTRUCTIVE MOUTHS. And to my family, I beg that you will stop dividing us due to this SHIT. Please agree to dis-agree and lets move on. My father and I have a lot of the same beliefs and a lot of different beliefs but I would never tell him he is wrong or I am right. I love him. That is the problem. So many forget that they love each other. My Father and Grandmother taught me unconditional love which is hard at times. If we don't adopt this we will become no different then the government, paranoid and refusing to spread knowledge because knowledge is power.

Pardon my poor writing skills.

JOURNAL PAGE UPDATES

Journal 5. The first has to do with the book "Brave New World". I've been thinking a lot of the theme of this book lately. The second image reminds me of the Bret Easton Ellis book "Less Than Zero". There is something incredibly calming about Los Angeles late at night.

OFF THE HOOK: An Art Show to Benefit SkateparkPV

Phenomenal art and silent auction items. Items for auction are from Trump, Terranea, Cox Communications, Equinox, Spectrum, ET Surf, Vanguard, Kenny Anderson, Girl Skateboards, Frascati, Marmalade, Red Onion, Catalina Express, Hangar 18 Rock Gym, Amuse, Beach Sports, HIllside Auto, Stoked Skateboards and many more!! It's going to be a remarkable evening!

I will have 2 pieces in this show. Saturday. MORE SKATEPARKS. When I was actively skating, there were hardly any parks. NONE in the south bay. I did C.A.S.L. contests so I got to skate some fun parks. Andy Harris and the awesome folks in Pedro made a KILLER park that I would have killed for when I was trying to go pro. Skating has tapered off to the occasional session for me but I have a son and want him to have the option to skate a park. Learn how to skate transitions and be safe. Please support.

Im Going Through Changes.

Lately I have been HYPER Focused on the tiny details of things and the way they make me feel. Good art, in my opinion either documents something or causes the viewer to feel. Best scenario would be both. Anyway, Surfaces, paintings, plants, humanimals, etc. have sparked a new understanding of the invisible direction I want to take my work. Evolution?

"Dig for Fire" Art Inspired by The Pixies

Im very proud to be a part of CAVE Galleries "Dig for Fire" show. I have been a huge fan and highly influenced by The Pixies. Their music has been playing in the background while I painted a lot of work and they are a band who truly coined their own sound, one of the hardest things to do in music.

My piece "Luna" is inspired by the song "Subbacultcha".
